Some suggestions for the version SE 5.0 regarding what we had in version 4.0

List of my suggestions for the new version 5.0:

1. There is no button OPEN VIDEO in toolbar, so if we have more than one video for the same subtitle, we must go to the menu Video/Open Video. I think we should keep the solution from 4.0, where we had a separate OPEN VIDEO button in the toolbar, next to OPEN SUBTITLE.
2. Button SET START OF CURRENT SUBITILE AND OFFSET THE REST (see the picture) should be WIDER THAN THE OTHERS. There are many buttons here, so this is a bad solution to make all of these buttons in this group bigger. I think THIS BUTTON ONLY should be TWICE WIDER, because it is used very often. Whenever you need to shift the whole subtitle to the right or left, you need this button. It is not so convenient it to be the same width as the rest of the buttons in this group.

Maybe you can even move it from this group and (if there is a space) to put it where it was in version 4.0 (it was a tab) or on the left side, to ungroup it to be more accessible. See the picture:

3. Maybe you can add a set of nice colored icons for the toolbar as we had them in version 4.0, this kind of icons are too cold and generic. I liked your theme LEGACY.
4. Maybe you can also add the button in the toolbar FIX COMMON ERRORS to make the work more comfortable.
5. Where can we adjust the font and size of the font on the waveform? I can't see it. This option was present in version 4.0. The letters in the waveform are too small for the comfort use.

6. I guess, we will get shortcuts when you finish the main job and fix all problems. I personally don't use shortcuts, but sometimes they are useful, and they tell us what options we have in this program, so we get it better.

If I must evaluate this new version, I think it is MORE THAN OK. It is better than I thought at first sight.

If the button SET START OF CURRENT SUBITILE AND OFFSET THE REST can be put on the right of the group of buttons, as the last one, and WIDER, that would be even better. It is very OFTEN USED and every good position would be more than welcomed.

I decided to fool around a bit with the colors in the waveform in beta 5. It seems the font text size & text color settings have no effect, but that's what you're saying above . . . I think. Or is that "not" meant to be a "now" & it's just a typo? The color for the waveform itself does seem to be applying, so that's good. I'd really like to make the time index numbers at the bottom a little bit bigger. They're a bit small for my old eyes. But I even set that text size to 36 & it changed nothing in the waveform. At a certain point, I actually managed to make the waveform invisible. But through a combination of Ctrl+n & cycling SE a few times, I've managed to get it back. Not sure exactly how I managed to make the waveform invisible but I did. I'm glad I stumbled on a magic spell to restore it. I'd share that secret but it's apparently a secret even from me.

On further observation, it seems like the waveform text color is being applied to the subtitles within the waveform. But the text size of the subtitles matches the text size of the time index numbers at the bottom in their smallness. So it looks like just that one setting needs to be activated.

OK, so the "time/seconds" numbers should get the same font/color as the text in the waveform?

Let's see what you have done:

1. OPEN VIDEO doesn't work, it gives the message that the subtitle was not found, only works with the menu Video/open video. Here's what you get when you click on OPEN VIDEO on the toolbar:

2. SET START OF CURRENT SUBITILE AND OFFSET THE REST button to the lower right (icon |->). You can put it at the end of the group of icons, and IF YOU CAN, make it with double width, because it is something that is used very often. MOVE the whole group of buttons from that group to the left a bit, to give space for this button. Maybe you can make some extra space to separate this button so it's easier to hit with the mouse.

3. You didn't do anything with toolbar icons, to offer some other, less generic set of toolbar icons like LEGACY in version 4.0. I guess, you will leave it for later.

4. Nothing done with FIX COMMON ERRORS or the option Tools/Remove text for hearing impaired (the same as in 4.0), in the toolbar.

5. GREAT JOB with the WAVEFORM TEXT SIZE. You did it very well.

Generally, you do a great job, it will be a nice version.

Not sure exactly what I did but now the text font size for the subtitles is reacting to my changes in settings. On the other hand . . .

Yes, the font size should apply to the time indexes at the bottom. I don't think the time indexes should have a separate font setting. Let the same setting control the size & font type for both the subtitles & the time indexes.

But the really ugly part of that image is due to my fooling around with the settings for Waveform subtitle background color. It isn't restricting itself to the subtitles but overflowing for the entire area, obliterating the waveform & the time indexes. Shortly after I took that screen shot, I changed that color setting back to something that allowed everything to be visible. In my case, I have the Waveform subtitle background color set to 00000000 & the Waveform background color set to 0000AA31. They're different but I don't see it in this image. They're probably not different enough to be noticeable, but the Waveform subtitle background color is probably what you're seeing there in the 2 outer subtitles, not the Waveform background color, & the Waveform subtitle background color is sufficiently different from the rest of the colors that you can actually see things in this image:

The subtitle in the center of the Audio visualizer, being the current subtitle, is controlled by a different color setting: Waveform selected subtitle background color. Mine happens to be 4646785A. But I have a feeling that this color should also be restricted to be just around the subtitle text itself.

Am I being clear? There should be a subtitle background box around the subtitle text, both for the selected subtitle & adjacent subtitles visible in the Audio visualizer aperture. There should be a noticeable box outlining the subtitle text with a different color from the main background color of the Audio visualizer, which I believe should be controlled by the setting Wavef9rm background color. I think not all the colors are actually being displayed.

Also, notice how the settings dialog is partially hiding behind the Audio visualizer. This has been happening since rather a long way back in the Previews. When you click Apply in the settings, the settings dialog jumps behind the Audio visualizer. It should stay on top & not go away until I hit the OK button or the Cancel button or the Esc key.

Beta 6 does have some improvements in the waveform text handling. Now the time index numbers at the bottom are the same font & font size as the subtitles at the top. They do react to changes in the settings of the Waveform text font size. Now you need to tackle the color issue, specifically the background outline around the subtitles, as I tried to explain above. If I wasn't clear (I don't think I was entirely clear), I can always spew more verbiage at you or dump some screenshots in here, if any of that would help.

Thanks, OPEN VIDEO issue fixed. Regarding this, in version 4.0 you could load subtitles, and when you click on the empty waveform, you get the dialogue for the. You had the empty waveform option, CLICK TO ADD WAVEFORM, and the dialogue OPEN VIDEO FILE opens.

I am still waiting for point 2, it won't cost you any effort, just change the order of the buttons and put the button SET START OF THE CURRENT SUBTITLE AND OFFSET THE REST to the right side, to the end of this set of buttons, and make it wider if you can, or make some empty space between it and the other buttons. It is just a matter of reordering the buttons and adding some empty space between them.
